True or False: Mike Evans is a top five wide receiver

Each week we are going to look at some of the biggest topics in the NFL and decide whether a statement is true or false..

This week Dave Gray (@djg23), Dan McLaughlin (@GridironGents), Ross Bell (@RossBell1984) and John Macdonald (@HeelMacca) will be the ones making the decisions.

You can also check out our power rankings here where the Patriots just hold on to top spot despite our resident Pats fan dropping them out of top spot.

Mike Evans is a top five wide receiver

Ross – True. He is the QB’s only target but it doesn’t mater if he’s double covered he still makes plays and he also has the refs on his side to get away with OPI a fair bit (Ask Richard Sherman)

Dan – False… kinda. Right now he is a top 5 receiver, but if you’re talking about it in the grand scheme of things I don’t think he’s good enough to de-throne Antonio Brown, Julio Jones, DeAndre Hopkins, AJ Green and Odell Beckham Jr.

John – False. It is one of the most competitive positions and I don’t think he makes the cut as top five at the moment.

Dave – False. I think he is six but I just can’t put him ahead of Brown, Jones, Green, Beckham or Hopkins but I wouldn’t really argue if anybody had him ahead of one or some of those.

Derek Carr is the current MVP

Dan – False. He’s playing very well, no doubt but currently I’m backing Drew Brees, who has doesn’t receive the credit he deserves for being consistently excellent year in, year out.

John – True. As the way I see the MVP award yes he is. He will probably not win it as it will go to Tom Brady or Matt Ryan. But Carr is the linchpin of this team and has showed that when they need him to step up he can. Just look how quickly the Raiders fell apart when he got taken out of the game in the third quarter this week. Then he came back in and won it for them.

Ross – False. But he is definitely in the running. Personally it’s Drew Brees for me. He puts up massive numbers each week regardless of opposition

Dave – False. I think people get caught up in the most valuable player title (just like Sports Personality of the Year has nothing to do with personality). It is a player of the year award and while I think Carr is the best of the rest, I’d take Tom Brady, Ezekiel Elliot and Matt Ryan ahead of him.

Colin Kaepernick will be the 49ers quarterback in week one of next season

Ross – False. He hates that franchise, the head office seemingly hate him its going to take a massive offer to entice him to stay in Santa Clara next year. Outside bet for the next Broncos QB anyone?

John – True. He probably will do but it is long time between now and then so anything could happen.

Dan – True. The Niners claimed this year was a “reload” rather than a rebuild. Now it’s definitely a rebuild, with many issues that need sorting ahead of QB.

Dave –  True. He has shown enough to make you think he could be an ok quarterback for them with a better team around him. The 49ers have so many holes that going elsewhere in the draft may be the best strategy. I could see them doing something similar to the Browns and trading out for more picks and sticking with Kaepernick.

One of the 5-6 teams will make the playoffs. (Packers, Colts, Saints, Eagles, Chargers)

Dave – True. I think the Colts and Packers could really make a run. I don’t trust either of the teams ahead of them and they have two of the very best quarterbacks in the league. Both have shown some signs of life and I could see them putting a run together to sneak in.

Dan – True. I think the Colts, Saints or Packers could make a push to upset a couple of teams. I think Packers probably stand the best chance.

John – True. Making the playoffs is all about getting hot at the right time and some of these teams are doing just that.

Ross – True. In fact two of them are going to make the playoffs. Those being The Colts (Poor division) and the Saints (Leagues best offence)

The NFC east is the best division in football.

Ross – False. AFC West holds that title this year. Even the bottom of the pack Chargers can beat most teams on their day.

Dan – False. Not in a world where the AFC West exists Chat Conversation End Seen by everyone

John – False. I would have to say it’s the AFC West no one wants to play anyone of those because they are all playing so well this year. Though I think the NFC East is really good I think the West beats them every time.

Dave – False. But I think it is close between that division and the AFC West. I think the Cowboys are the best team across the two divisions but top to bottom it is hard not to take the AFC West. Even the Chargers who are bottom could win the Super Bowl this year.
