NFL Game of the Week: Week Nine

Game of the Week: Green Bay Packers (6-1) at Carolina Panthers (7-0)

The Carolina Panthers host the Green Bay Packers on Sunday in what could well end up being the game that decides the number one seed in the conference.

The teams are currently in first and second in the NFC. A win for the Panthers would see them move two games clear and in the driver’s seat for home-field advantage in the playoffs.

The Packers come into this game on the back of their first loss of the season in Denver. The Broncos held what many thought of as an unstoppable Green Bay offence to just 140 total yards.

Reigning MVP Aaron Rodgers will be looking to bounce straight back after the worst performance of his career.  It won’t be easy against the Carolina defence who are one of the best pass defences in the NFL and currently third in the league in interceptions.

Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has been wonderful so far this season and finds himself in the conversation for this season’s MVP award.

Carolina were not fancied by many before the season but their 7-0 start including a win over last season’s NFC champions, the Seahawks, has seen them emerge as one of the leading contenders for this year’s Super Bowl.

Green Bay are slight favourites for the game with bookmakers, despite being on the road. If the defence can stop the Packers like the Broncos managed to last week then they could get an important victory.

Prediction: Panthers by three
